Virtual tours

Virtual tours:

Eiffel tower - http://paris.arounder.com/en/monuments/tour-eiffel

A virtual tour is a simulation of an existing place, usually made out of a sequence of videos or still images. It could also include other multimedia elements, such as music, sound, text and many more. The good thing about virtual tours is that you can take a tour of almost any place in the world and stay in the comfort of your own home. Also, if you are planning on going on a holiday and you want to know if a place is worth going to you could just google it and see what it is like in 3D. On the other hand, taking virtual tours of places could mis lead you. For example if you are wanted to look at a house, it could be out dated. That goes for almost any place. Another problem with virtual tours is that you could not get the full idea, this could also mis lead you.
My opinion of virtual tours: I think it is a awesome way of seeing what places all around the world looks like without having to spend a dime. I have always wanted to stand on top of the Eiffel tower and with virtual tours I was able to see what it would be like without having to move a muscle. In conclusion I think that virtual tours are really cool but like anything they have ups and downs.

Lorde

In my opinion, I think that Henare has no right to say those things about Lorde. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I don't think it is fair that he put his opinions on twitter. No one really knows whether Lorde has epilpsy but one thing is for sure that her dance moves need more work.

A time when I put my foot in my mouth was when my mum came back from the hair dresses (I didn't know she went) and she asked how her hair looked and I said that it looked the same as always.

TGC orientation day

Today all the year 8 girls had their TGC orientation day. We left school at 8:45 and caught a bus, when we arrived the head girl for 2015 talked to us and so did the deans. Once everyone talked to us, Miss Valentine divided us into groups and we started our tour of the school. The first thing we did was go through the subjects we are taking next year and did some 'house keeping'. We had 4 year 9 and 10 ambassadors that stayed with our group and answered any questions we had.
It was really cool seeing some of the girls we know from last year and other girls from previous years. I think that TGC were very organised and everything ran smoothly, I don't know if i'm that excited about going to girls but it will be fun.

Advice for the yr 7's

Dear new year 7 students,

Hi, I'm Marijke and I am going to list some things and give you some advice you'll need to know for next year.

- When the bell goes at 8:30 make sure you line up quietly outside the class. Trust me, after while it gets super annoying!
- When you are in class, try to keep your voices down! You do not want Miss C ringing her cow bell for more than 2 seconds.
Girls - A handy little tip us girls learnt over the years is to wear your PE shorts or spandex under your skirt. It keeps those cheeky little boys looking.
Boys - If you aren't comfortable with taking your pants off in class when you need to get changed, you can wear your PE shorts under your uniform. But be sure to rill them up so that they don't show.
- If you have your ears pierced, remember to wear the correct jewellery! You don't want Mrs Collville on your case!
Girls - On a sunday night, add checking your nails for nail polish to your routine, you don't want to go down that road!
- Sorry girls, no make up!
- Get involved in as much as you can, there are so many opportunities.
- No phones! There are big consequences if you bring your phone yo school.
-  Only use the Rimu toilets.
Girls and boys - For your own sake, please don't wear your roman sandals with your PE gear.
- If you are into sport, be sure to take part in as many sport codes with the school if you want to get into sports academy in year 8.

I hope this advice will be helpful as you start your journey at TIS!

From, Marijke

Life ed video

Sound quality: I thought the sound was good, you could clearly hear the people talking. There was no background noise or distracting sounds.

Camera skills: They had a bit of a variety when it came to angles but they could've had more. I enjoyed the locations! It was really cool when you did that scene in the car.

Acting: I liked they way everyone spoke, good expression!

Editing: The editing was good but I think you could've spent more time on it. Also, some nice transitions would be good.

Poem: It was really good how you did a voice over on your poem. I like the idea of doing an acrostic poem.

Quality of the message: The message that you carried throughout the video was good, but I'm not sure if it would fit it with Michaels lessons.

Internet Forums

What is an internet forum?
It is an online discussion site where people can talk to each other and post messages. Basically like a message board.

Have you ever posted on a forum? Explain.
Yes, I have. Most of my family lives in South Africa, so to keep contact we made a big group conversation on an app called whats app. This keeps our family in the loop of what is happening in South Africa and New Zealand.

What is a thread?
A topic or question from a user asking the owner or maker of a product something.

What is the forum administrator’s job?
They monitor what is going on in the forum and makes sure that questions get answered. Also, they often provide online support to members when necessary.

Enlargment

What 2 things do you always need to say to describe an enlargement? - How many times bigger you have made the shape, where the centre of enlargement is.

What does centre of enlargement mean?
- It shows where the x needs to go to show the projection lines go.

What is a scale factor? The scale factor is the distance between the the shape and the projection line. This shows you how much you need to enlarge the shape.

What happens to the angle sizes in the corner of the shape when you enlarge it? - The angles stay the same.

Life Ed

"Delay the Decision" Was the main message at Life Ed. We applied this to alcohol and drugs.

Delaying the decision.
Michael taught us that it is important to delay the decision of using drugs until we have finished the journey of puberty. It is more dangerous for teenagers to use drugs than an adult that has already finished puberty because we have a faster absorption rate. This just means that we absorb the drugs faster.

How do drugs affect the brain
Memory
Reasoning
Judgement
Mechanical skills
Intellect
Concentration
Emotion

These are the things in your brain that gets affect almost immediately once you use drugs.

You have 4 parts to your brain. Long term, short term, future thinking and todays thinking. The words that are in a different colour are the parts that the drugs effect first.
- Long term
- Short term
- Future thinking
- Todays thinking

This is just another reason to prove drugs is not a good way to go with your life. Michael told us a story about how a man went out and used drugs, when he got home he couldn't remember his own daughter and thought she was threatening him and then hit her.

Puberty
You can start puberty as young 9yrs or as old as 16yrs, it is simply because everyone is different. This stage in your life is very important as you start to make your way into becoming a young lady or young man. Making your way into this journey will take 7 years or described as the 7 rungs on a ladder. Most teenagers start using drugs at parties at only 13!! This has taught me to be aware of my situations when I am in places where I could be offered drugs.

Saying no
We have been taught an easy way of being able to say no.
REACH WITS

R - give a reason
E - give an excuse
A - be assertive
C - change the subject
H - humor

W - walk away
I - ignore
T -  Tell someone
S - seek help

To sum it all up we learnt that it is very important to delay the decision of using drugs until you have finished puberty. Also I have learnt all the affects that drugs will do to your body and that it is NOT a good idea to start!

Is the book disappearing?

When was the last time you read a book? Studies show that 75% of people prefer reading off a screen than off paper, this understandable considering this day and age. In rm 42 9/31 students have read at least one book on a kindle or off ebooks. When researching it came up several times that it is convincing cheaper to pay for an online book than it is to pay for a book from the shop. In addition to that, it is proven that authors write their stories on computers and then print them, so just think how much easier it would be for the authors if they didn't even have to print their writing. Printing books isn't exactly a cheap business either. In the USA they cut down 30million trees a year. The thing is that there is only a 50/50 difference, by that I mean that if we stick to using books then we keep cutting down trees, but if we use kindles and eBooks we are increasing the radiation.

In conclusion, I think personally think that switching to technology is a good idea, even though there is a 50/50 difference. What do you think?

Marijuana

Marijuana

  • class - C

  • describe how the drug looks - This drug has 9 leaves, it is a dark green colour and is the same shape as leaves on a palm tree.

  • how it is made - Marijuana is grown but planting a seed in rich soil to increase chances of having a good crop. Once the plant has started growing it will determine weather it is a male or female plant. Soon the plant is ready for harvest and is hung out to dry for curing.

  • ways the drug is used - The most common way of using Marijuana is to roll it into cigarettes and smoke it, another way users like to use it is to vaporise it. This is when you take the Marijuana and you turn the drug into vapour and inhale it. It can also be cooked into foods such as soup and brownie
